From Old Habits to Healing: How to Create New Routines That Support Mold Recovery and Lasting Wellness

Some habits need to stay, and some habits need to hit the highway.

When I was recovering from mold toxicity, my body made it clear that it needed new habits—not quick fixes, but consistent, healing routines. Two of the biggest changes I made were using a far infrared sauna and taking specific supplements to support my symptoms at the time. From there, I focused on building consistent habits that helped my body become more resilient.

It’s one thing to decide to start taking supplements and build consistency, but knowing exactly what your body needs and finding a rhythm that supports healing is where the real work begins.

One of the biggest challenges that slowed my progress was detoxing. My body couldn’t handle it; I was detoxing too quickly and ended up feeling worse. I had to learn how to balance my body so it could detox effectively and still function well for my family. Finding that balance took time, but through that process, I developed habits that truly supported my recovery. Now, I help other women do the same.

But here’s something important to understand: what worked for me may not be what your body needs. Each person’s health journey is unique. Your genetics, environment, hormone levels, gut health, and even emotional stressors all play a role. That’s why knowing which habits to keep and which to let go can be confusing, especially when you’re trying to recover from something as complex as mold toxicity.

If you’ve received a new diagnosis or recently had lab work done, you might be wondering: Which habits will actually help me heal? Which ones are making things worse? These are the kinds of questions that can feel overwhelming to answer alone.

As a Nationally Board-Certified Functional Medicine Hormone and Gut Health Coach, I help women discover the nutrition, detox, and lifestyle habits that truly move the needle toward healing — because lasting wellness requires more than just willpower. It requires the right structure, guidance, and support.

Why Changing Habits Matters in Mold Recovery

If you’ve dealt with mold exposure, you know how it can quietly affect every aspect of your life — your energy, hormones, digestion, mood, and even your sleep. Mold toxicity is sneaky. It hides not only in your home and body but also in your daily routines and habits.

You might be eating “healthy” but still feel bloated, sleeping eight hours but waking up tired, or taking supplements yet not noticing much change. That’s because recovery from mold and chronic toxicity isn’t just about removing the mold; it’s about rebuilding your body’s foundation through better nutrition, detox support, and restorative habits.

Your routines — what you eat, how you move, how you rest, and how you think, can either support your body’s detox pathways or burden them even more. And when you’re not feeling well, making these changes can feel like climbing a mountain. This is why having a system of support and structure is so important, it gives you the tools and accountability to stay consistent even when the journey feels tough.

Habits vs. Willpower: The Secret to Consistent Healing

Habits and routines are far more reliable than willpower. When you build the right habits and pair them with the right mindset — you create real, lasting results.

There are specific routines that help keep your hormones balanced, your gut healthy, and your detox pathways clear. But these habits aren’t one-size-fits-all. The best approach depends on your body’s needs and your unique health challenges, especially if you’re dealing with mold exposure, Candida, SIBO, or autoimmune conditions.

That’s why accountability and consistency matter so much. Having a guide and a supportive community can help you stay on track, avoid overwhelm, and make small changes that create big results over time.

Even as a Functional Medicine coach, I’ve had moments when I fell out of my healthy routines. Recently, I noticed I wasn’t drinking enough water or electrolytes even though I know how crucial hydration is for detoxification and hormone balance.

Between client calls, workouts, and daily life with kids, I simply got busy and thought I was doing fine. But my body told me otherwise. I started feeling more tired and sluggish — classic signs of dehydration.

So, I made a small but powerful change: I now prepare all my water and supplements in the morning. I fill my bottles with minerals, collagen, and a very clean electrolyte that my body can tolerate. These are what I pour into my glass first thing in the morning to start my day right. That one simple habit has helped me stay hydrated and consistent again.

Sometimes, it’s not about overhauling your life; it’s about noticing where you’ve slipped and gently readjusting. Healing happens one mindful choice at a time.

The Power of Visual Reminders

When you’re starting new habits, visual cues can be powerful tools to help you stay on track.

During one of my healing phases, I came across a colorful, perfectly imperfect centerpiece in the place where we were staying. It instantly caught my eye and reminded me to find joy and beauty in the process, even on difficult days. Every time I walked by it, it became a visual “reset button” that reminded me why I was doing this work.

That experience taught me how powerful visual anchors can be. A sticky note on your mirror, a water bottle on your desk, or even a favorite quote can all serve as gentle nudges to keep going, especially when motivation fades.

When Change Feels Hard

Changing habits can be tough and when you’re not feeling well, it can feel almost impossible. Mold recovery can drain your energy and affect your mood, making it even harder to stay consistent.

One way to make this easier is by writing down the pros and cons of the change you’re trying to make. What are the benefits if you stick with it? What are the consequences if you don’t? Seeing it in writing can help you reconnect with your “why.”

Still, most people find that making lasting change requires more than a list — it requires accountability, structure, and compassionate guidance. Having someone walk alongside you can make all the difference.

Healing Happens Faster with Support

Healing from mold, hormone imbalance, or chronic fatigue isn’t just about protocols — it’s about people. Having someone who understands what you’re going through, who’s been there and recovered, and who knows how to help you navigate each step makes the process less overwhelming and more effective.

As someone who has personally walked through mold toxicity four times, along with Candida, SIBO, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, early menopause and extreme hormone imbalance, H. pylori, and consistent, massive digestive issues—I know how lonely and confusing this journey can feel. But I also know that recovery is possible with the right habits, mindset, and guidance.
